Making changes to approved felling permissions

We will consider a variation request if:

• your plans change before felling starts
• you discover significant on-site differences that affect your planned operations

If the change is major, you may need to submit a new felling permission application rather than a variation.

Examples of major changes can include significant alterations to felling areas, proposals affecting environmental sensitivities, or changes requiring new consultation.

Please note that we are unable to vary increases to approved felling permissions and additional area will require a new felling permission application.

How to apply

Complete the form to request a variation to your permission, then submit it to your local office.

You can request to change or revoke conditions attached to your felling permission.

These may include changes to:

• restocking proposals
• maintenance proposals
• compliance timescales (for example, extending a restocking deadline)

You may also request changes where different environmental approaches would improve outcomes. For example, choosing to restore part of the site as peatland or using Forest Research’s Hylobius Management Support System (MSS) to justify a longer fallow period before restocking.
