Grants for managing woodlands

There are a variety of grants available for managing existing woodlands. These are available through the Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS).

They are designed to: 

  • encourage natural regeneration
     
  • support priority habitats and species 
     
  • contribute to the sustainable management of urban woodlands
     
  • improve public access 
     
  • support the preparation of forest and/or management plans for the woodland 
     
  • support the management of existing forests and woodlands with a high environmental value
     
  • improve the biodiversity, resilience, and structural diversity of even aged woodland
     
  • support the protection of woodland from the impacts of tree pests or diseases
     
  • support forest access in small-scale or under-managed woodlands
     
  • support key ‘landscape scale’ projects involving many landowners
     
  • provide support for new specialised forestry equipment in key areas
