This habitat survey covers the site East of Peebles in the Scottish Borders and is centred on Ordnance Survey (OS) grid reference NT1591 3976.

Summary

The survey area/site comprises approximately 144 ha of upland heathland, acid grassland and rush pasture with smaller areas of dense bracken, scattered bracken and acidic scree.

All habitats are currently managed for sheep grazing with some patch mowing of heather, particularly on the slopes of Penvalla and Huskie Rig. 

Proposals

It is understood that current proposals comprise the planting of UK Forestry Standard (UKFS) commercial forestry, with a species composition to include:

  • mainly Scots pine with Norway spruce and Douglas fir
  • native broadleaves along the burns and open ground
